Floor Length Curtain Size

The length of the curtain from the ground

When it comes to traditional curtains and tulle, the guideline is that they should hang 1 cm above the floor level.

Why not do it right on the floor? Because there is nearly always an inaccuracy in the distance between the floor and the ceiling, sewing curtains that reach the floor but do not lie on it is a technical challenge.

Then there's the conventional length, which is not only attractive but also practical. Curtains are easy to push and draw apart, do not obstruct vacuuming or mopping, and are less dirty. Both curtains and tulle are subject to this restriction. If both types of fabrics are used to decorate the window, they should be flush.

Length of tulle and curtain

The following are the primary groupings that are distinguished by this parameter:

  • curtains with a short length The size is calculated by adding 1.5–2 cm to the distance between the fabric's end and the window sill. They're frequently hung together with lambrequins, tulle, and other materials. Dark materials visually "cut" the space, which is an unfavorable alternative for small and low-cost establishments. Coquettish drapes with tacks gathered on the sides are great for the kitchen. They'll bring a sense of fun and brightness to the room. They will not obstruct daily living and will be less filthy.
  • The canvas is ten to twenty centimeters lower than the window sill. This solution is only appropriate for rooms where this portion of the window is not used as usable space and there are no gas or electrical appliances nearby.
  • The distance from the ground is 5–7 cm. The choice that is thought to be the most popular. However, keep in mind that with such curtains, the room's height appears to be reduced. This is especially problematic in apartments with ceilings less than 2.5 meters. The appearance of the window space design is also harmed by a significant number of folds in heavy drapes. Tulle is strung on par with the length of a dense curtain in such instances.
  • The most profitable and popular alternative for apartments is canvas "on the floor." Curtains placed 1–1.5 cm from the floor give the sense of a stop; nevertheless, if the coating is uneven, this must be taken into consideration while measuring. In this situation, a shortcoming like this can be remedied. The fabric is utilized with a margin or at the exact wall-to-wall distance. If there is a stretch ceiling, the location of the curtain must be considered: it might be buried beneath it (then the material must be taken with a margin) or below it (then the material must be taken with a margin).
  • The fabric is about 10–30 cm off the ground. Due to their quick contamination and impracticality, such methods are rarely used. They must be lifted while cleaning and gently placed out afterwards. These models appear to be especially useful in formal settings. They do not require any further decorations in the form of accessories and can work as a complete decoration on their own.

Only the first option (see the list above) has a size difference; the others are the same. Tulle can be shorter when thick curtains are draped on the floor; the length is determined by the curtains themselves. It's important to choose canvases that compliment one other organically and make a complete composition. Designers advocate combining choices of various lengths in the following situations:

  • non-standard windows;
  • visual space extension is required;
  • the overall architecture of the area must be more dynamic.

Curtains of various sizes should not be used in rooms decorated in a classic or minimalist style. A symmetrical kitchen, living room, or bedroom with a balcony is perfect. The shorter section in the first case is on the side of the cooking zone. The piece on the floor totally hides the balcony door in the second.
